If our website check reports “Images with missing alt attributes found”, some images lack a short text description. It is quick to fix and pays off twice.
Why alt texts matter
- Google understands your images. Vehicle photos, parts and workshop pictures can be found in Google Images – but only if Google knows what they show.
- Accessibility. Screen readers read the alt text aloud. Under the European Accessibility Act this is now required for many online shops.
- Fallback. If an image does not load, visitors still see what should be there.
How to write good alt texts
- Describe what is visible: “White VW Golf 8 GTI, front view in the showroom” instead of “IMG_2041”.
- For parts: name and vehicle, e.g. “Front brake disc for Fiat Ducato X290”.
- Keep it short, up to about 125 characters. No keyword lists.
- Purely decorative graphics (lines, backgrounds) get an empty alt text.
Where to enter the alt text
- PrestaShop: Catalog → Product → Images → click the image → “Caption” field (per language).
- WordPress: Media Library → image → “Alternative Text” field.
- Shopify: Product → click the image → “Add alt text”.
Then check the page again with the alt text checker or a full audit.
